Dr. Z. A. Cockar, B.V.M., M.Sc. (Edinburgh) – Sole Director, started the Vet Clinic at Ngong Road in 1981. A branch practice was then started at Rosslyn in 1993, and has grown from strength to strength. The Ngong Road Clinic was sadly closed in 2005 because the premises were no longer available due to city development. Dr. Cockar is a graduate of the University of Nairobi, worked for a short time with the Government of Kenya, and then went to Edinburgh to do a Masters degree at the Royal (Dick) Veterinary School at the University of Edinburgh. Upon return to Nairobi, Dr. Cockar worked with another practice in Karen for 1 ½ years before starting Cockar Vet Clinic. Besides investing continuously in the physical facilities, Dr. Cockar regularly goes for international Continuing Professional Development courses to keep abreast of current knowledge in veterinary medicine. Dr. Jim Katu, B.V.M. – worked with Dr. Cockar for 4 years before embarking on a Master’s programme which he is currently pursuing and hopes to finish soon. He fills in as a locum at the Clinic whenever possible and is well-liked by the clients. Other veterinary doctors provide locum services as and when needed, especially when Dr. Cockar is on leave.
Susan Wambui is our secretary-receptionist and has been with us for many years. She takes care of the administration and accounts side of the practice. Animal assistants include Benson, Julius, Geoffrey and Patrick. They are all experienced and help with all the daily work in the clinic.
There are also two kennel men in charge of the hygiene and cleanliness of kennels and feeding and washing of the patients and boarders. A gardener and security staff complete our workforce.
